The curse of the black toe

One of the curses (some say icons) of long distance running are the black toenails… Sometimes caused by tight shoes, but mainly due to the constant pounding the feet take as a result of high road mileage. At my typical pace/stride that’s approaching 29,000 paces on a 20 mile run…

Well, after about 450 miles, the last few long runs and last Sunday’s race I have reached that dubious milestone – the black toe :-) It doesn’t hurt. It just looks yuck… it’ll get better all by itself after I cut back mileage post-race in November.
